The Zero SR/S electric motorcycle is the sports-tourer version of the full-power SR/F. Both bikes are based on the same, Italian crafted, fixed steel trellis frame and share the same power pack, controller, motor, Cypher 3+ operating system, Bosch electronics, Showa suspension and J-Juan brakes.
Apart from being fully faired, complete with a wider, LED headlamp unit and folding, fairing-mounted mirrors, the SR/S has a more upright riding position due to its raised bars and lowered footrests. The suspension has also been tuned for highway riding and is more forgiving, whether ridden solo or two-up. This has been achieved without compromising roadholding or cornering ability, which ensures a rewarding and enjoyable ride. To accommodate a larger pillion seat and a top case mounting plate, the SR/S has a slightly longer rear subframe than the SR/F.
At the heart of the SR/S is Zero's air-cooled, Z-Force 75-10 motor, which is linked to a controller capable of delivering up to 900 amps from the 17.3kWh Li-ion power pack. The ride-by-wire electronic throttle sends instructions to the controller which determines the revolutions and power of the motor. With the assistance of the Bosch MSC package to take care of traction, the motor produces up to 84 kW (113 hp) at 7,500 RPM and an astounding 190 Nm (140 ft lb) of torque. At just 517 lb (235 kg) this translates to a real-world 0-60 of just over 3 seconds, which requires no special skills or launch control; simply select Sport or Canyon mode, twist the throttle and hold on tight, all the way to a top speed of 124 mph.
The 43mm, big piston, Showa front forks and the 40mm piggyback reservoir rear shock both have fully adjustable rebound damping, compression and preload. Under the supervision of Bosch MSC's ABS and cornering ABS, at the front a pair of 320mm discs are gripped by meaty, monobloc, 4-piston J-Juan callipers, and a 240mm disc with a single piston calliper takes care of braking at the rear. In reality, the fully adjustable engine braking provides ample deceleration when approaching junctions and roundabouts, such that up to 75% of conventional braking can be avoided, thus leading to reduced brake pad wear.
Aside from Bluetooth connectivity the SR/S has a Cellular and GPS module which allows connection to the new Cypher Store and provides real-time tracking via the mobile app, along with access to a range of other data.
Lights for the SR/S are provided by low energy, high output LED technology. An RFID immobiliser is used to protect the bike from being activated without an original key.
The hugely accessible and astounding performance of the SR/S makes it one of the most accomplished motorcycles of all time. With zero emissions & running costs of under 4p per mile, it's quite simply in a class of its own.
17.3 kWh Power Pack
The 2024 SR/S power pack uses improved chemistry to take capacity up by 20% to 17.3kWh. Despite this significant increase, this actively cooled unit actually weighs 2 kg less than the original power pack and delivers the highest energy density of any electric motorcycle battery at 4.5kg per kWh. This capacity increase yields a proportionate improvement in range, which now extends to an impressive 171 city miles or 116 motorway miles. A typical mixed cycle of around 120 miles can also be expected when the battery is charged to its full capacity. Furthermore, power delivery remains constant until the battery reaches 0%, whereas previously upon reaching 10% the bike would enter low-power mode.
Faster Charging
A flat-six charger provides a charging speed of up to 6.6kW from a three phase, Type 2 charger, or from a single phase, Type 2 charger when using a specially modified cable. This translates to a charge time of 150 minutes for a full charge. An optional mains (10 Amp) charger is available, which provides a charging time of around seven hours from a standard mains socket. An optional 6kW Charge Tank reduces the time for a full charge to just seventy minutes.
Park Mode
Park Mode now comes as standard, which provides a very useful, slow-speed forward and reverse capability. Although limited to 2 mph, Park Mode has automatically variable torque which enables the bike to deal with obstacles like kerbs and varying gradients.
Navigation
A turn-by-turn navigation feature remains a Cypher Store option for 2024 and uses Bluetooth to pass navigation information from a smartphone to the new TFT display.
Indicators
For 2024 LED Indicators are now standard.
