The DSR/X was four years in the making, with a brief to create the most responsive and capable electric adventure motorcycle in the world. The full-power DSR/X and its A2 (35kW) and A1 (11kW) variants are based on a completely redesigned platform which is derived from the SR/F and SR/S models.
At the heart of the bike is an actively cooled 17.3 kWh power pack (expandable to 21 kWh), cradled within an all-new steel trellis frame, which feeds through to a repositioned 900 Amp controller, and a modified, 75-10X motor which produces a world-beating 229 Nm or torque. Critical to control and stability is the latest Bosch MSC platform, which includes combined braking, vehicle hold control (VHC) and an off-road mode that disengages the rear-wheel ABS. For ultra-low speed manoeuvring a forward and reverse Park Mode, with automatically variable torque is provided as standard. This enables the bike to move at 2 mph in either direction, irrespective of the gradient or any minor obstacles e.g. curbs or ruts.
The staggering torque of the DSR/X ensures a phenomenal mid-range response, either on tarmac or when tackling steep off-road terrain. The DSR/X benefits from new, fully adjustable 47mm Showa forks and rear suspension capable of handling a total payload of 500kg. The DSR/X achieves its increased ground clearance by positioning the controller under the seat, which improves wade depth and provides greater overall protection from surface water.
The Showa suspension units are fully adjustable for pre-load, compression and rebound, and each end provides 190mm of travel. The rear preload is hand adjustable for convenience and the bike rides on a 19" front and a 17" rear wheel combination, fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Trail tyres. For 2024 the previously optional spoke wheels now come as standard, as do the LED indicators.
A 20l storage compartment is provided in the tank area, which also houses 2 x USB sockets, and additional storage is also provided in the side pods. Rear pannier and top case options from SW Motech are available and increase overall storage to over 140l.
Using a Type 2 EV charger the bike's onboard 6.6kW charger will take the power pack from 20%-80% in just 90 minutes, with a full recharge taking just 150 mins, after which a combined range of 115 miles is easily achievable. The optional Charge Tank reduces these times to 45 mins for a 20%-80% charge or 75 minutes for a full charge 0-100%.
The DSR/X has a standard seat height of 828 mm which can be lowered to 805mm or raised to 865mm with optional seat units. A wide range of accessories is available, including an Adventure Pack comprising the following:
