Surprisingly, all our electric motorcycles capable of 61-85 mph can be ridden on a CBT or A1 licence, despite being capable of acceleration that's three times faster than any petrol 11kW (125cc) bike and being at least 10 mph faster.
So how is this possible? Well, the 11kW limit applies to continuous power, rather than peak power. For petrol motorcycles continuous and peak power are generally the same e.g.11kW, however, Zero's 11kW bikes all produce 3-4 times as much peak power; 33kW or 44kW and what's more, they also produce at least 78 ft lb (106 Nm) of torque - roughly equivalent to a 1000cc bike. This all results in a ride that feels more like a 500cc petrol bike, only with the simplicity of a twist and go, far greater economy, no tailpipe emissions, no vibration and remarkably little noise.
Although these bikes may cheat the classification rules, insurance companies treat them like any other bikes with similar performance levels, which means they generally appeal to reasonably experienced riders.
So there you have it, the fastest 11kW motorcycles are electric and aside from leaving their petrol counterparts standing in acres of clean air, they do so in relative silence and with economy that's the equivalent of around 300 mpg. Truly the best of all worlds!
Come and try one of our 11kW Zero demonstrators and you'll discover that they rewrite the textbooks of performance and pure riding pleasure. All the pace, without a trace.
