The 2024 Zero DS is a purpose-built adventure bike that delivers unrivalled performance and capability in the 11kW category. Quite simply, whether petrol or electric, nothing gets close to the riding experience on offer from this remarkable motorcycle, which is cloned from Zero’s range-topping, full-power DSR/X.
The power to, commute, tour or explore
The DS is fitted with Zero’s brand new, Z-Force 75-7 motor, which delivers peak power of 45 kW (60 hp), whilst conforming to the 11kW continuous power requirement for A1 bikes. This peak power is further surpassed by the huge torque that’s on tap right across the rev range. At 132 Nm (97 ft lb) this is roughly ten times greater than any petrol A1 bike, which is why the DS despatches 0-60 in just a few seconds.
The effortless performance of the DS is in part owed to the absence of a clutch and gearbox, which ensures an instant and predictable throttle response, from a standing start all the way to its top speed. With the addition of adjustable brake regen, the throttle acts as both an accelerator and a brake, with energy being recovered into the battery under deceleration. Brake regen also reduces brake pad wear, whilst minimising any front-end dive due to the energy being recovered from the rear wheel.
An unrivalled specification in the A1 class
Standard features on the 2024 DS include a 19"/17” front/rear wheel combination, fitted with Pirelli Scorpion tyres, fully adjustable 47mm Showa forks with 190mm of travel, a fully adjustable rear Showa shock, also with 190mm of travel, and a very comfortable upright riding position, offering excellent weather protection from the fairing and height-adjustable screen.
Exceptional stability and control
The 2024 DS has been equipped with a specially adapted version of Bosch MSC, which incorporates linked ABS brakes (eCBS), traction control and an off-road riding mode which disengages the rear ABS. As with the DSR/X, the 2024 Zero DS delivers an outstanding range of capabilities from tracks and trails to potholed tarmac, and it’s 246mm of ground clearance enables it to tackle all manner of obstacles.
Staying power
The DS is fitted with a 14.4kW power pack, which translates to at least 120 miles of urban or rural commuting. If required, the power pack can be upgraded via Zero’s Cypher Store by up to 20%, to a maximum of 17.3kWh. The onboard 3kW charge will fully recharge the power pack from a Type 2 EV socket in around five hours. Alternatively, the DS can be charged from a standard mains socket in just six hours with an optional mains charger.
Class leading comfort
The excellent weather protection of the DS makes it perfect for comfortable, all-year-round riding, and the optional touring screen will especially suit taller riders. Low seat and tall seat options are also available if the standard seat doesn't suffice.
