Range 0-35 Miles
Size Matters
Battery packs are measured in kilowatt hours (kWh) so quite simply, the bigger the battery the longer the range is likely to be. Almost every model offered by Spark Motos offers at least a 2 kWh battery and the largest power packs can offer up to 18 kWh currently.
Variables
Electric motorcycles are similar to petrol models in that range will vary according to a number of factors which include;
- The payload - weight of rider, passenger and any luggage
- The average speed - the lower the better
- The terrain - the flatter the better
- Riding style - aggressive acceleration
- Conditions - a tailwind is always preferable to a headwind
Because a battery pack involves a chemical reaction, temperature also has an impact on performance and in very cold conditions, range can fall by up to 30% vs the warmest temperatures.
So what range can I expect?
The above makes predicting the range of an electric motorcycle quite difficult, but all the models we sell are capable of travelling around 35 miles when driven within normal urban speed limits, by a rider of around 75 kg, in temperatures of 10c and above.
All electric motorcycles display the battery's state of charge as a percentage, which makes it relatively easy to predict range under different conditions. Always allow a safety margin so that you don't have to rely on the last 10-20% of power.
